NASA, U.S. Air Force, Library of Congress and Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company Provide Winners

Women in Aerospace (WIA), a nonprofit
organization dedicated to promoting the advancement of women in aerospace and related
careers, and to recognizing the achievements of outstanding women in
aerospace, today announces the recipients of its annual award competition. The awards
will be officially presented to winners during a reception on Capitol Hill,
Tuesday, September 16, Rayburn 2325

Chosen by a review committee from nearly 100 nominations in an open
solicitation, this year’s winners include two notable achievements- the first
recipient of the new Aerospace Awareness award presented for excellence in building
public awareness of aerospace, and the first tie in the category of
Outstanding Achievement.

This year’s winners are:

  • Lifetime Achievement Award: Marcia S. Smith, Senior Level Specialist in Aerospace and Telecommunications Policy, Congressional Research Service, Library of Congress, Washington, DC
  • Outstanding Leadership Award: Blair C. Marks, Director C-5 Avionics Modernization Program, Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company, Marietta, GA
  • Outstanding Achievement Award: Captain Melanie Bean, Delta IV Integrated Product Team Mission Lead, Detachment 9, USAF, Vandenberg AFB, CA
  • Outstanding Achievement Award: Andrea Donnellan, Deputy Manager, Earth and Space Sciences Division, Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), Pasadena, CA
  • Aerospace Educator Award: Barbara R. Morgan, NASA Astronaut, NASA Johnson Space Center, Houston TX
  • Aerospace Awareness Award: Dr. Marla Perez-Davis, Chief, Electrochemistry Branch, NASA Glenn Research Center, Cleveland, OH

Women in Aerospace (www.womeninaerospace.org) is a Washington, DC-based
nonprofit dedicated to expanding women’s opportunities for leadership and
increased visibility within the aerospace community. Any person who supports WIA’s
mission and goals is eligible for membership.
