Space Micro Inc., powered by Voyager Space, today announced flight orders for its newly released ProtonVPX-Box™. This modular platform can be configured for multiple applications such as Command & Data Handling, Propulsion Control, Solid State Digital Data Recording, High Speed Data or RF and Digital Signal Processing. Space Micro is under contract to deliver flight hardware to two different customers by the end of 2023.
The ProtonVPX-Box is a rugged aluminum chassis with multiple individual card slots that connect to a high speed SpaceVPX backplane.
The high-performance Proton600K™, an advanced, radiation-hardened 3U SpaceVPX single board computer whose design includes a Fully Depleted Silicon on Insulator (FD-SOI) processor incorporating eight ARM Cortex cores, anchors a baseline 5-slot configuration. Additional functions, based on Space Micro’s existing library of circuits, include solid-state recorders, digital I/O, analog I/O, power switches and power supplies are also available.
ProtonVPX-Box’s high-speed backplane allows Space Micro to combine its high-performance processor with its state-of-the-art RF communications technologies to address a wide range of complex signal processing applications.
“Space Micro’s ProtonVPX-Box is an exciting enabling technology for our customers. Customers can configure a ProtonVPX-Box using our extensive catalog of circuits and have the option of adding their own 3U VPX cards, too,” said David Czajkowski, Space Micro CEO.
The ProtonVPX-Box space avionics platform – sourced and manufactured by Space Micro in San Diego, CA – is radiation tolerant, programmable on orbit and suitable for LEO, GEO, HEO and MEO orbits as well as cislunar missions.
