VIENNA, 3 April (UN Information Service) — An exhibition on China’s national, international and manned space programmes was handed over today by the Permanent Representative of China to the United Nations Office at Vienna, Zhang Yan, to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Vienna, Antonio Maria Costa. The Space Exhibition, on display since 17 February 2003, had been opened on the occasion of the 40th session of the Scientific and Technical Subcommittee and the 42nd session of the Legal Subcommittee of the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space.

The exhibition, which includes 17 models, provides information on the activities of the China National Space Administration (CNSA), and includes prototypes of different launch vehicles and satellites, including one of the “Shen Zhou” spacecraft. The “Shen Zhou”” spacecraft will be used in China’s first manned spaceflight planned for the end of this year.

The models will be displayed at the UN Space Exhibition and at other locations throughout the Vienna International Centre. The “Shen Zhou” spacecraft, together with its launch vehicle, Long March-2F, will be put on permanent display at the Space Exhibit.
