On the request of the Science Minister, Lord Sainsbury, BNSC has set up an independent panel to review the potential benefits to the UK of research in the life and physical sciences using space facilities.
The Panel is chaired by Prof William Wakeham, Vice Chancellor of Southampton University, and its recommendations will be presented to Lord Sainsbury early in the New Year via the Directors General of BNSC and of the Research Councils. The other members of the panel are Sir Richard Sykes (Rector, Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine), Sir Peter Williams (Chairman, Engineering and Technology Board) and Dr Steve Garwood (Director of Materials, Rolls Royce plc).
Communities with an interest in such facilities are welcome to submit their views to the Panel – instructions are available on the UK microgravity web site, http://www.microgravity.org.uk
