Next generation of engineers, rocketeers and astronauts compete in eleventh annual Team America Rocketry Challenge

On Saturday, May 11 at 8:30a.m., the top 100 national finalists in the Team America Rocketry Challenge (TARC) will face-off right outside of Washington, D.C., as they launch the rockets they’ve designed, built and perfected over the past eight months in one of the most competitive year’s yet of the world’s largest student rocket contest.

Among the national finalists are several all-girls, urban and rural teams who are eager to disprove the stereotypes around women and minorities in science, technology, engineering and math. These teams have worked all year to perfect a rocket that safely carries one raw egg to an altitude of 750 feet and back within 48-50 seconds – not a second more, not a second less. Teams are competing for more than $60,000 in scholarships and prizes, as well as the chance to compete in the NASA Student Launch Initiative and Paris international fly-off.
