At a ceremony at the London Science Museum last month, Professor Martin Sweeting, CEO of Surrey Satellite Technology Ltd, received the 2001 World Technology Award for Space.

The World Technology Awards have been created to honour those individual leaders from across the globe who most contribute to the advance of emerging technologies in all categories for the benefit of business and society.

The awards especially honour those innovators who’s recent projects have the greatest likely future significance and impact over the long-term – individuals whose work today will, in the judges’ opinion, create the greatest “ripple effects” in the future.

SSTL launch their 20th satellite in 20 years at the end of this month when PICOSat, built for the US Air Force Space Test Program, will be launched by NASA from Kodiak Island in Alaska. This is the first time that the US Government has procured a spacecraft from a non-US supplier.
