The U.S. Defense Department’s interest in low Earth orbit space services is a positive for satellite manufacturers and for commercial operators of broadband constellations, says a new report by the market research firm Quilty Analytics.
A report from Quilty Analytics projects Maxar will retain the bulk of future NRO imagery contracts and emerging competitors Planet and BlackSky will gradually gain market share.
Todd Harrison: “If we want to be competitive we don’t want to lose this vital part of the space industrial base.”
Quilty Analytics is “quite bullish" on satellite IoT for incumbents and some new entrants, Partner Justin Cadman said Oct. 9 at the Satellite Innovation 2019 conference.
While there may be enough customer demand for two or three megaconstellations, it will be difficult for the ventures to attract enough financing, according to analysts speaking at the Satellite Innovation conference here.
