Britain’s Surrey Satellite Technology Ltd. (SSTL) and Dutch Space BV announced March 15 joint development of a small geostationary satellite platform designed to utilize excess launch vehicle capacity.
SSTL will market the Dutch Space CX2 satellite platform under the name GMP-CX as part of its geostationary mission product range, SSTL said in a press release.
The GMP-CX, which will measure 1.25 meters high and 2.6 meters in diameter when stowed, will be capable of carrying payloads of up to 250 kilograms with up to 2.5 kilowatts of power consumption. The new platform will use SSTL’s Geostationary Mini-satellite Platform avionics.
