Small-satellite specialist Surrey Satellite Technology Ltd. (SSTL) of Britain said Dec. 7 that it has delivered 18 SGR-10 GPS receivers to Sierra Nevada Corp. for integration with the next-generation fleet of two-way digital-messaging satellites the Sparks, Nev.-based company is building for Fort Lee, N.J.-based Orbcomm.
Sierra Nevada is under contract to build 18 small satellites for Orbcomm with an option to build up to 30 more.
Orbcomm plans to begin launching the next-generation satellites at the end of 2010 to augment and upgrade its existing constellation of mobile- and fixed-asset tracking satellites.
