Aerospace Company Among Elite to Receive Supplemental Certification
Houston, Texas, March 3, 2005 – SPACEHAB, Incorporated (NASDAQ/NMS: SPAB), a leading provider of commercial space services, announced today that the Company has received its AS9100 certification, the aerospace sector’s leading quality management system registration.
The AS9100 certification calls for increases in metrics evaluation, which ultimately create a closed-looped environment, perpetuating self-analysis and continued improvement. Earning this designation exemplifies not only SPACEHAB’s commitment to providing its customers with exemplary services and products, but also illustrates that, as an aerospace company, it has met the critical demands the industry is placing on manufacturing processes.
AIB Vinçotte, one of the registering authorities for such designations, sent their Belgian-based executives, led by Chairman of the Board Prof. IR. Pierre Klees, to present a plaque to SPACEHAB President and Chief Executive Officer, Michael E. Kearney. “Earning this certification is a direct result of our employees’ enthusiasm and assiduousness,” said Kearney. “Our team is among the finest in the industry, and we take great pride in knowing that we have passed the highest level of aerospace manufacturing and quality management system requirements.”
Published by the Society for Automotive Engineers, AS9100 is based on ISO 9001 and adds specific requirements that are critical for the aerospace sector. “We are extremely pleased to award SPACEHAB with the AS9100 certificate,” explains Jim Dugal Executive President, AIB Vinçotte USA. “The AS9100 accreditation was established to standardize worldwide aerospace quality expectations and to achieve significant cost and value improvements. SPACEHAB should be commended for achieving this level of service excellence.”
Benefits associated with becoming AS9100 certified include providing access to the best practices of the aerospace industry, demonstrating commitment to delivering quality products and services to customers, bringing quality management system to a level with the global standards adopted by the aerospace industry, and reducing the number of second and third party audits. Additionally, achieving the AS9100 designation affords SPACEHAB the opportunity to pursue business opportunities, such as support to the Nation’s Vision for Space Exploration, and contracts otherwise inaccessible to non-AS9100 accredited companies.
