What & Who: International Space Station crew members of Expeditions 15, 16 and 17, including Expedition 16 Commander Peggy Whitson, will visit NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala., July 22. Whitson became the first female space station commander during her October 2007 to April 2008 mission. Expedition 15 Flight Engineer Clayton Anderson, who stayed on the station for five months beginning in June 2007; Expedition 16 Flight Engineer Dan Tani, who was on the station from October 2007 to February 2008; and Garrett Reisman, who served as flight engineer with both Expeditions 16 and 17 from March to June of this year, also will share highlights of their missions in presentations to Marshall Center employees.
The crews helped with the first expansion of the station’s living and working space in more than six years. The station and visiting space shuttle crews worked to add to the station NASA’s Harmony connecting node, the European Space Agency’s Columbus laboratory, the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency’s Kibo logistics pressurized module and the Canadian Space Agency’s Dextre robot. Marshall is a key player in providing ongoing support to the International Space Station – the largest and most complex international science project in history.

9:30-10:30 a.m. CDT – Crew members will provide mission highlights in the Marshall Center’s Morris Auditorium, Building 4200.
11-11:20 a.m. – Crew members will be available for a question-and-answer session with news media in the Marshall Center’s press room, Building 4200.

Media must report to the Redstone Arsenal Joint Visitor Control Center at Gate 9, Interstate 565 interchange at Rideout Road/Research Park Boulevard. Vehicles are subject to a security search at the gate. News media will need two photo identifications and proof of car insurance. Visitor parking is available in front of Building 4200 on the southwest side.
