What: Crew members of space shuttle Discovery’s STS-124 mission will visit NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala., Aug. 19. The mission was the second of three flights to launch components to the International Space Station to complete the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency’s Kibo laboratory. Discovery delivered Kibo’s tour-bus-sized Japanese Pressurized Module, which is the station’s largest module. The 14-day mission flew May 31-June 14, 2008.
Who: Commander Mark Kelly and other STS-124 crew members.
When & Where: Tuesday, Aug. 19
10-11 a.m. CDT – Crew members will provide mission highlights in the Marshall Center’s Morris Auditorium, Building 4200, followed by an autograph session, 11-11:30 a.m.
12:40-12:55 p.m. – Crew members will be available for a question-and-answer session with news media in Marshall’s Payload Operations Center in Building 4663.
To attend: News media interested in covering the event should contact the Marshall Public & Employee Communications Office at 256-544-0034 no later than 4 p.m., Monday, Aug. 18. Media must report to the Redstone Arsenal Joint Visitor Control Center at Gate 9, Interstate 565 interchange at Rideout Road/Research Park Boulevard. Vehicles are subject to a security search at the gate. News media will need two photo identifications and proof of car insurance. Visitor parking is available in front of Building 4200 on the southwest side.
