News from the 16th Annual National Space

Symposium

The
Space Awareness Alliance (SAA) has been selected
to receive this year’s Douglas S. Morrow Public
Outreach Award, announced today by the Space
Foundation. The award recognizes the SAA’s
outstanding body of work from 1996-1999,
including the creation of the unprecedented
industry coalition and the reaching of more than
350 million Americans with its public relations
efforts, advancing the public understanding of
space for Americans. The Space Foundation will
present the Morrow Award to the SAA the evening
of April 3, during the Opening Ceremony of the
16th National Space Symposium.

The Space Foundation annually presents the
Douglas S. Morrow Public Outreach Award in
memory of the late Douglas S. Morrow, renowned
Academy Award winning writer and producer, space
advocate, and former Foundation Director, to an
individual or organization that has made
significant contributions to public awareness of
space programs. Previous Morrow Award
recipients include the crew of Space Shuttle
Mission STS-95, NASA’s JPL Mars Pathfinder Team
and the Cable News Network.

The Space Awareness Alliance was developed as a
cooperative effort — by more than 30 aerospace
companies, space advocacy organizations and
supporters — to help increase public awareness
of, and support for, the civil, commercial and
national security space programs of the United
States. For more information on the Space
Awareness Alliance, visit

The National Space Symposium is conducted by the
Space Foundation, and takes place April 3-6,
2000, in Colorado Springs at the Broadmoor
Hotel. Widely regarded as the premier annual
space forum, the National Space Symposium
features top national and international speakers
addressing critical civil, commercial and
national security space issues. Additional
Symposium information and secure on-line
registration is available at
