COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (September 2, 2008) – The Space Foundation announces Deeya Energy(TM) L-Cell(TM) technology as a recently added Certified Space Technology. The Space Certification program was created by the Space Foundation, in cooperation with NASA, to raise awareness and understanding about the significant and practical benefits of technologies originally developed for the space program which have been adapted into products and services that improve life on Earth.

Deeya Energy is a technology start-up dedicated to developing and manufacturing electrical energy storage systems based on its proprietary technology, L-Cell. The systems are derived from a novel battery technology originally developed by NASA in the early 70s as a potential energy storage method for long term space flights. This approach involves mixing reactive chemicals to provide higher charge efficiency than normal rechargeable batteries.

“The Space Foundation is pleased to welcome Deeya Energy’s L-Cell as a Certified Space Technology,” said Kevin Cook, director of Space Technology Awareness for the Space Foundation. “Deeya Energy’s cutting edge cell technology shows a commendable commitment to applying clean energy practices here on Earth.”

Deeya Energy has incorporated L-Cell technology in the ESP-6000(TM) energy storage platform. The ESP-6000 achieves a new level of cost and performance in providing infrastructure support for low availability service areas, and optimizing bulk renewable energy penetration within the energy industry.

The ESP-6000 is an economically and technologically superior alternative to conventional and environmentally hazardous lead-acid batteries, enabling significant operational savings with diesel engine generators in applications ranging from a few kilowatts to megawatts. One of the design features of the technology is the decoupling of power and energy. This allows high-volume production to be easily tailored to site-specific backup requirements.

The design life of the ESP-6000 product is 20 years, with five-year service intervals and minimal maintenance. The technology is temperature independent, enabling outdoor operation or eliminating costly and unreliable cooling equipment. ESP-6000 can also be charged quickly. A four-hour back-up system takes only three hours to recharge, dramatically improving system availability. Deeya’s systems contain no heavy metals and release no poisonous or hazardous fumes, making them an excellent clean energy technology.
