COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Nov. 19, 2008) – The Space Foundation announced today that it will conduct the second annual Space Business Forum: New York on June 4, 2009, at the Hilton New York Hotel in New York City. This Space Foundation event was created to allow financial analysts, investment bankers, institutional advisors, venture capitalists, insurers, and others from the financial community to engage in a meaningful dialogue with space industry leaders about business opportunities across the $251 billion space economy – which ranges from new commercial space ventures to established space-related businesses.
“With the markets in turmoil and the economy unsettled, there’s never been a more important time to ensure that healthy, growing sectors like space are communicating clearly with Wall Street,” said Elliot Pulham, president and chief executive officer of the Space Foundation. “Space Business Forum: New York proved invaluable to financial leaders when we launched the program last June and we expect that smart money looking for secure growth in a stable high tech sector will find the forum a critical platform moving forward.”
Last year, the inaugural Space Business Forum: New York drew attendees from across the nation to listen to key speakers from within the space industry share their expertise on the past and future of the industry in the financial sector. Speakers included The Honorable Newt Gingrich, former speaker of the United States House of Representatives and chairman of the Gingrich Group; Mr. Eric C. Anderson, president and chief executive officer, Space Adventures, Ltd.; Mr. Stephen Attenborough, commercial director, Virgin Galactic; Mr. Francois Auque, chief executive officer, EADS Astrium; Mr. John B. Higginbotham, managing member, SpaceVest; and Ms. Joanne M. Maguire, executive vice president, Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company. Panels included discussions of converged media, climate change, and government acquisitions. Conference underwriters included ISDR Consulting, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, and SpaceVest, with AVIATION WEEK as the event media sponsor.
Highlights of the upcoming forum will include networking opportunities, presentations from top industry leaders and analysts, and a keynote luncheon. Presented by the Space Foundation, Space Business Forum: New York is focused on the New York financial community, highlighting trends, developments, risks, and opportunities in this $251 billion global high tech business sector.
