Sierra Nevada Corporation’s (SNC) Space Systems congratulates NASA and Dream Team members United Launch Alliance and Lockheed Martin on the historic achievement of the successful Exploration Flight Test-1 (EFT-1) mission of the Orion spacecraft.
“Today is a day of celebration and reflection,” said Mark N. Sirangelo, corporate vice president, SNC’s Space Systems. “The successful EFT-1 proves that we can still pursue the dream of space exploration, following the trails of past explorers, and blazing new trails for future explorers. Launching Orion for the first time is a tremendous undertaking and we applaud NASA, Lockheed Martin, United Launch Alliance and the countless other organizations involved in its success for their efforts.”
SNC’s Space Systems has a long standing relationship with Orion prime contractor, Lockheed Martin. Lockheed Martin is a major program partner in the design and development of SNC’s Dream Chaser® spacecraft, leveraging advanced composite manufacturing processes developed for the F-35 Lightning II aircraft and Orion spacecraft towards the composite structure build of the Dream Chaser spacecraft.
For future Orion vehicles, SNC will supply spacecraft components. Eventually, the Orion spacecraft will take human exploration farther than ever before with missions to deep space including asteroids and eventually Mars.
