WHAT IS A GENESIS GRAM?

A Genesis Gram is a 100 character (or less) thought that will travel through space. All acceptable Genesis Grams,
with the authors’ names, will be engraved on a special “chip” that will be carried aboard the Genesis spacecraft and
brought back to Earth. If you are using Genesis Gram as a class writing project, you may combine up to five entries for
a longer thought (up to 500 characters)

WHAT IS AN “ACCEPTABLE” GENESIS GRAM?

(1) An acceptable Genesis Gram is one that falls within the following categories:

  • A Thought For The Earth
  • A Thought For Space
  • A Thought To Live By
  • A Thought To Make You Smile
  • A Class Writing Project (see opportunities page on http://genesismission.jpl.nasa.gov )

(2) A Genesis Gram can be of a spiritual nature, but it cannot promote any particular religious belief, group, or
organization.

(3) A Genesis Gram cannot contain profanity, bigotry, or any attempt to degrade or belittle anyone or group.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO MY GENESIS GRAM?

Genesis Grams that are judged to be “A Thought Worth Repeating” will be featured on the Genesis homepage, with
credit given to the authors. When the Genesis spacecraft returns to the Earth, the project will publish a small
commemorative book, The Best Thoughts From Space, with multiple author credits.

NOTE: All Genesis Grams submitted will become the property of the project to use on its homepage or in project
publications.
