SC Aerospace, an industry cluster of the South Carolina Council on Competitiveness (the Council) has named Don Myers, as Advisory Board Chair.
Don is the Director of Aerospace Sales & Marketing at Toray Composite Materials America, Inc. where he is responsible for leading the management of their commercial aerospace unit. His primary roles include the integration of new aerospace programs, program management, long range business planning, and marketing strategies in the aerospace sector, as well as global customer support strategy.
The SC Aerospace Advisory Board is comprised of 18 C–level executives from aerospace companies and state research universities across the state who work together in a collaborative effort to build and strengthen South Carolina’saerospace cluster.
As Chair of the SC Aerospace Board, Don’s experience and industry insight will help guide the direction and strategic planning of the cluster for the next year. He notes that he is eager to help drive the cluster’s mission forward saying, “I’m excited about the opportunity to be the Board Chair and I’m looking forward to working with the team this coming year.”
Susie Shannon, President & CEO of the Council, said that Don will be an outstanding leader for the board and brings a great deal of experience to the role. “We are extending our gratitude to Don for being such a great partner to the cluster over the years and for his willingness to step into this role. With his background, Don has a breadth of experience in aerospace and aviation that will serve the cluster well.”
That background includes work in the corporate and general aviation industry as a source consultant and in rotary and fixed wing acquisitions. Don is also a prior military aviator and has extensive experience with commercial, military, and corporate aircraft operations, sales and finance, supply chain management, and Federal Aviation Regulations.
Adrianne Beasley, Director of SC Aerospace says that Don will be a valued voice as the board’s chair. “Toray’s arrival in South Carolina is a game changer, solidifying the state as a leader in composite materials. With Don working alongside the other members of our advisory board, I’m confident that the SC Aerospace initiative will continue to grow and enhance South Carolina’s aerospace industry.”
According to a 2018 study commissioned by the Council, the aerospace industry has a $24.8 Billion impact on the state’s economy with the average annual growth rate of the SC aerospace core being over 25%.
