SAIC Inc., one of NASA’s five biggest contractors, said Sept. 24 that it had relocated its corporate headquarters to McLean, Va., from San Diego, in order to be closer to its federal government customers. The company currently has 17,500 employees in metropolitan Washington.
The announcement was made three days after SAIC’s new chief executive officer, Walter P. Havenstein, officially replaced Kenneth Dahlberg.
SAIC said in June that it had hired Havenstein away from the top job at Rockville, Md.-based defense contractor BAE Systems Inc. to succeed Dahlberg as of Sept. 21. Dahlberg remains SAIC’s chairman of the board until a new chairman is selected.
