On 28 July the Japanese broadcasting satellite BSAT-4b is scheduled to be launched into space. RUAG Space provided the satellite container and trolley for the transport and integration on Earth.
The Maxar-built broadcast satellite BSAT-4b, operated by the Broadcasting Satellite System Corporation (B-SAT, a Japanese company), is scheduled to be launched into space from the spaceport in French Guiana, South America. It will be launched by Arianespace aboard the Ariane 5 rocket.
Container for sensitive objects
RUAG Space, a leading supplier to the space industry, delivered the customized spacecraft container for the satellite’s safe transport on Earth. This also included a satellite trolley for the integration works. “Satellites are highly sensitive and expensive products, which cost several millions of dollars. Customized containers with a special damping system and climate control are necessary for transporting this precious cargo,” says Luis León de Chardel, Executive Vice President, RUAG Space ad interim. RUAG Space has delivered more than 60 customized spacecraft containers to governmental customers like
ESA, NASA and to commercial customers like Maxar.
Payload fairing and computer for Ariane 5
Also on the Ariane 5 rocket with BSAT-4b will be the Galaxy 30 satellite for Intelsat, a global satellite and terrestrial network operator. RUAG Space produced the payload fairing for the Ariane 5 rocket. The same is true for the onboard computer, which, as the “brain” of the rocket, plays a central role in a successful rocket launch. For instance, it takes over management of the last controls, starts the engine, analyzes engine health status after start, and ignites the solid boosters to initiate liftoff.
