MOFFETT FIELD, Calif.- A consortium of academic institutions in partnership with NASA, will open the doors of a new center designed to foster innovations in robotic and space technologies.

News media representatives and the public are invited to attend.

The Center for Robotic Exploration and Space Technologies (CREST) will hold its inaugural open house from 2:30 to 5 p.m. PDT on June 7, 2007 in its new student research facility at the NASA Research Park located at NASA Ames Research Center, Moffett Field, Calif.

CREST is a regional academic consortium designed to foster and promote strategic partnerships among private industry, government agencies and education and research institutions. The mission of CREST is to support hands-on engineering education, advanced technology demonstrations, and scientific discovery.

During its open house, CREST will showcase current partner projects that demonstrate the power of university collaborations, both within the academic arena and within the sectors of industry and government agencies. Activities will include live robotic demonstrations and student-led tours of the Small Spacecraft Assembly lab and the Mission Ops center. CREST partners also will be available to discuss their programs including the Entrepreneurial Space program and the DEVELOP program, where students work in collaboration with federal partner agencies using cutting-edge NASA earth science satellite data to address community issues.

Open house speakers will include NASA Ames Research Center Director Dr. S. Pete Worden, Santa Clara University Provost Dr. Lucia Albino-Gilbert, and NASA Ames Small Spacecraft Deputy Division Chief, John Hines.

NASA Ames Research Center is located about 40 miles south of San Francisco on U.S. 101. Take the Moffett Field exit and drive east to the main gate. Maps available at the gate.
