The aerospace industry welcomes the National Research Council’s report on NASA’s aeronautics research and development, which parallels many of the positions AIA is advancing on the development of the U.S. National Aeronautics Policy, AIA President and CEO John Douglass said.

The report — Aeronautics Innovation: NASA’s Challenges and Opportunities — calls for the administration and Congress to agree on the critical roles NASA must play to retain U.S. aeronautics and technology leadership.

It also calls for NASA to work closely with industry and government stakeholders throughout its program planning and research activities to ensure that its research is relevant and that this research can be transitioned into products to support the public good.

The report endorses innovative approaches to address NASA’s workforce issues and make sure critical experimental facilities remain healthy and available.

The report is available at http://www.nationalacademies.org/morenews/20060509.html The National Research Council is part of the National Academies, which includes the National Academy of Sciences, National Academy of Engineering, Institute of Medicine, and National Research Council.
