The astronauts of Space Shuttle Atlantis’ STS-115 mission will share their 12-day, 4.9-million-mile journey in a 6:30 p.m. CDT presentation at Space Center Houston Thursday, Oct. 19.
The event is free and will include slides, videos, a question-and-answer session and a brief autograph session in the Northrop Grumman Theater. The doors open at 6 p.m. Seating is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Once the 580-seat theater fills, guests will be seated in an adjacent area to watch the program on a closed-circuit television. The event is open to JSC employees, contractors, friends, family members and public guests.
Atlantis’ Commander Brent Jett, Pilot Chris Ferguson and mission specialists Joe Tanner, Heidemarie Stefanyshyn-Piper, Dan Burbank and Steve MacLean, a Canadian Space Agency astronaut, landed Thursday, Sept. 21, at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center, Fla. The STS-115 crew succeeded in resuming assembly of the International Space Station by delivering and installing the massive P3/P4 truss and two sets of solar arrays.
Tanner, Piper, Burbank and MacLean, with the help of crewmates, conducted three spacewalks that completed truss installation, enabled solar arrays to be deployed and prepared an important radiator for later activation. They also installed a signal processor and transponder that transmits voice and data to the ground and did other tasks to upgrade and protect the station’s systems.
