The President’s Commission on
Moon, Mars and Beyond, chaired by Edward C. “Pete” Aldridge, will hear
presentations from a broad array of education, industry and military experts
at its second public hearing, which takes place at the US Air Force Museum in
Dayton, Ohio, on March 3 and 4, 2004.
On March 3, Inspiring Youth and Improving Science/Math Literacy is the
title of the first panel, which convenes at 1:00 p.m.; the second panel will
be Creating Prosperity and Fostering a Competitive Environment; and a
presentation on Human Sustainability for Long Term Spaceflight will conclude
the first day’s testimony.
On March 4, beginning at 9:00 a.m., three panels on Science and Technology
and two special presentations on Management and Sustainability will be heard.
Senator John Glenn will address the Commission at 11:15 a.m.
From 2:00 to 3:00 p.m., aerospace industry representatives have been
invited to address the Commission; and from 3:00 to 3:30 p.m., through a
lottery system, individuals in the audience will be given an opportunity to
present comments to the Commissioners. At 3:45 p.m., a news conference for
accredited media journalists will be held.
The President’s Commission on Implementation of U.S. Space Exploration
Policy (Moon, Mars and Beyond) is charged with building consensus and
providing recommendations to the President regarding moon research activities,
increasing young people’s interest in space science, and bringing in industry
and other countries as space partners.
