CLEVELAND — The final Community Information Session (CIS) on the decommissioning of the closed Reactor Facility at NASA Glenn Research Center’s Plum Brook Station will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 21, from 7-9 p.m. in the cafeteria of Sandusky High School, located at 2130 Hayes Avenue in Sandusky, Ohio.

The information session will provide an informal atmosphere in which to learn about the recent progress made on the decommissioning. This last in a series of 11 annual events also will chronicle the life of the Decommissioning Project. Members of NASA’s Decommissioning Team and the project’s Community Workgroup will be on hand to meet community members and answer their questions.

The CIS presents an excellent educational opportunity for students of all ages and their parents. In addition to a series of displays about the decommissioning, this year’s event will include displays on other present and planned work at Plum Brook Station and the Apollo Program’s 40th anniversary. Also, the Aero Bus, a Glenn traveling exhibit, will be ready for visitors to climb aboard starting at 6:30 p.m. People are welcome to stay for all the activities or just drop by.

A meeting of the Decommissioning Project’s Community Workgroup will precede the CIS at 5:30 p.m. at the same location. The public is welcome to attend this meeting. The workgroup meetings provide NASA a vehicle for disseminating information on the decommissioning process to the members of the workgroup and the community. The workgroup consists of Erie County health and public safety professionals and representatives from the educational and environmental communities.

At this meeting NASA’s Wind Farm Project Manager Bob Puzak will speak about studies being conducted on the possibility of a wind farm at Plum Brook Station that could meet a substantial portion of NASA’s energy needs. He also will be available throughout the evening at the CIS to meet community members and answer questions.

Reporters are invited to both the Community Workgroup meeting and the CIS. Further information about the Decommissioning Project is available via the Decommissioning Information Line at 1-800-260-3838 or the Decommissioning Website at: http://www.grc.nasa.gov/www/pbrf
