CLEVELAND — The tenth annual Community Information Session (CIS) on the decommissioning of the closed Reactor Facility at NASA Glenn Research Center’s Plum Brook Station will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 22, from 7-9 p.m. in the cafeteria of the Perkins High School, located at 3714 Campbell Street in Perkins Township, Ohio.
The information session will provide an informal atmosphere in which to learn about the progress made on the decommissioning over the last year. Members of NASA’s Decommissioning Team and the project’s Community Workgroup will be on hand to meet community members and answer their questions.
The CIS presents an excellent educational opportunity for students of all ages and their parents. In addition to a series of displays about the decommissioning, this year’s event will include information about Plum Brook Station’s unique natural environment and the work that will be done in its active test facilities in conjunction with the Constellation Program for space exploration. In addition, the Aero Bus, a Glenn traveling exhibit, will be ready for visitors to climb aboard starting at 6:30 p.m. People are welcome to stay for all the activities or just drop by.
A meeting of the Decommissioning Project’s Community Workgroup will precede the CIS at 5:30 p.m. at the same location, and the public is welcome to attend this meeting. The workgroup meetings provide NASA a vehicle for disseminating information on the decommissioning process to the members of the workgroup and the community. The workgroup consists of Erie County health and public safety professionals and representatives from the educational and environmental communities.
