The Planetary Society, a long-time advocate of international cooperation in
planetary exploration, is disappointed that NASA is cancelling its robotic
participation in Japan’s innovative MUSES-C mission to an asteroid.
Dr. Louis Friedman, Executive Director of The Planetary Society, made the
following comment regarding NASA’s cancellation of the MUSES-C nanorover:
“This is a major disappointment. It is a great loss for both international
cooperation and for planetary science, and is also a missed opportunity to
test the innovative technology of nanorovers. We hope that some way can be
found to avert this cancellation.”
