Penton’s Aviation Week Network is collaborating with the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) to produce the Space Commercialization Executive Summit, an invitation-only event in the space industry to foster an evolving and growing space economy.
Taking place on September 13, 2016, at the Hyatt Regency Long Beach in Long Beach, CA, the exclusive event will bring together senior executives, influencers and stakeholders involved in the commercial space sector, including industry, space commerce, R&D, academia and government. It will be co-located with the AIAA Space and Astronautics Forum and Exposition 2016.
The Summit steering committee is chaired by Capt. Mike Lopez-Alegria, USN (Ret.) a former astronaut who served as president of the Commercial Spaceflight Federation in 2014. The purpose of the event is to discuss opportunities, share ideas and create business partnerships in the commercialization of space. Following the Summit, participants will receive an action plan with a recap summarizing findings, conclusions and recommended next steps made during the event. This plan will also be disseminated to government entities, elected officials and industry influencers.
“Recognizing the rapidly expanding level of activity by private industry targeted at low Earth orbit, AIAA is pleased to join forces with Penton’s Aviation Week to convene the Space Commercialization Executive Summit,” said Dr. Sandra Magnus, Executive Director, American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics. “The increasing interest by the private sector in exploiting low Earth orbit allows NASA to expand its vision further afield and set its sights on Mars. But for both objectives to succeed, government and industry must work together to identify infrastructure and the capabilities that are essential to drive the necessary demand that will enable a robust space based economy. With these requirements in mind, we can identify mutually beneficial programs and projects in which to invest as a space community. The Space Commercialization Executive Summit can facilitate the dialog needed to think about our evolving engagement in space and how the whole sector can move forward strategically.”
A limited number of sponsorship opportunities are available for the Space Commercialization Executive Summit. Interested parties are encouraged to contact Beth Eddy at +1 561.279.4646 or betheddy@aviationexhibits.com.
