Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC – News) today announced the winners of its fourth annual Northrop Grumman Engineering Scholars program in the greater Woodland Hills community, awarding two $10,000 college scholarships–payable in $2,500 installments over four years–to promising high school seniors interested in pursuing a career in engineering.
Ethan Pautz from Simi Valley High School and Alexander Wang from El Camino Real High School both received the merit-based scholarship for their outstanding academic achievements and community involvement. They were honored at an awards reception hosted by Northrop Grumman’s Navigation Systems Division on June 9.
This fall, Pautz will study mechanical engineering at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, Calif. Wang will study electrical engineering at the University of California, Irvine.
“We commend these students for their exemplary academic achievements and commitment to their communities,” said Liz Iversen, sector vice president and general manager of Northrop Grumman’s Navigation Systems Division. “Northrop Grumman is proud to support math and science education and we look forward to all that these bright young students have to contribute to our industry in the future.”
The Engineering Scholars program is open to promising high school seniors who plan to attend an accredited university or college as a full-time student in an approved engineering curriculum. Funds can be used for tuition, books, meals and lodging.
A committee of Northrop Grumman employees selected the Engineering Scholars winners. To be eligible, each scholarship applicant had to be a graduating senior this spring from an accredited high school in Los Angeles or Ventura counties. Applicants also had to meet minimum SAT/ACT and grade point average requirements. Additionally, the committee considers work experience, community involvement and extracurricular activities.
Northrop Grumman is a significant financial and in-kind contributor to educational outreach programs aimed at encouraging young people to consider engineering and science-related career fields.
