HAMPTON, Virginia – News media on Oct. 16 will have a chance to preview some of the highlights of NASA Langley Research Center’s centennial open house five days in advance of the event.
Media wishing to participate should contact Michael Finneran at 757-864-6110 or at michael.p.finneran@nasa.gov Tour schedule:
* 11:45 – 12:30 The Integrated Engineering Services Building, where the public will see one of Langley’s newest buildings. Lunch in the cafeteria there, and gift shop availability. News media are not required to stay for the duration of the tour, and arrangements will be made for those who want to leave early.
The NASA Langley Centennial Open House itself will be held Saturday, Oct. 21. Visitors will see where the pioneers of the golden age of aviation forged revolutionary ideas and America’s original astronauts began their training. They will also learn how Langley’s current research contributes to NASA’s journey to Mars, helps to usher in a more mobile future and strengthens our understanding of Earth’s climate.
The open house will include 16 tour stops. The daylong event, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., will also feature an astronaut talk and a hands-on “Kids Zone” for young explorers. Admission is free and tour buses, food vendors, and the gift shop will be available.
The facility today known as NASA’s Langley Research Center was founded July 17, 1917. It is the agency’s first field center, and the nation’s first civilian aeronautical laboratory.
