Industry and Labor Join to “Stop the Clock” – Avoid Sequestration
On Wednesday, March 7, the Aerospace Industries Association and the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers will release a detailed and far-reaching new study documenting the contributions of the aerospace and defense industry to America. Tom Captain of Deloitte will explain how the aerospace and defense industry — which supports more than 3.5 million American workers — drives our economic and military power. AIA’s Marion Blakey and Tom Buffenbarger of IAMAW will discuss how far-reaching the blow would be if the automatic “sequestration” budget cuts are not stopped before the trigger is pulled next January.
The report contains extensive state-by-state assessments of aerospace and defense industry jobs, wages, revenue, taxes paid, trade, GDP and more. This report will be the basis for the economic metrics within AIA’s Second to None budget education campaign throughout the election year. The outreach campaign being conducted by AIA on behalf of its over 300 member companies will widely distribute data from the new Deloitte report to voters, labor organizations, elected officials, media and other groups in all 50 states.
