The NASA Space Science Enterprise is identifying advanced technologies
needed to support space science missions with launch dates 10 to 20
years in the future that are suitable and appropriate for its next
in-space validation through the New Millennium Program Space
Technology 9 Project.
The preliminary set of technology concept areas under consideration
are: solar sail flight system technology, formation flying system
technology, system technology for large space telescopes, descent and
terminal guidance for pinpoint landing and hazard avoidance, and
aerocapture system technology for planetary missions. To support this
effort, the New Millennium Program will hold a Technology Planning
Workshop to identify, in each of the five spacecraft technology areas,
the capabilities to be provided by significant technology advances
whose validation in space would constitute the appropriate next step
toward achieving the long-term mission capabilities needed to support
future NASA Space Science missions.
Workshop participation is open to U. S. industry, academia, Federally
Funded Research and Development Centers, and U.S. Government
organizations. Make group rate hotel reservations by January 13,
2003. Register online by January 29, 2003, on the NMP Website at:
