The National Space Society released the following statement on the NASA authorization bills which will now be considered by the respective full committees of the House and Senate.
“We are highly encouraged that both bills endorse the Vision for Space Exploration, as they represent the first time that Congress has taken steps toward such formal endorsement,” said Gregory Allison, the chairman of the society’s policy committee.
“Beyond this important endorsement, NSS would like to ensure that the result of this process maintains adequate budgetary margin to insure accelerated development of the Vision for Space Exploration.”
“The society is also encouraged that both chambers have acted to authorize NASA’s Centennial Challenge program. We urge Congress to maintain this authorization and to give NASA maximum flexibility in the implementation of this promising concept.”
