MOFFETT FIELD, Calif. – NASA Ames Research Center, Moffett Field, Calif., will sponsor an informal workshop-discussion Oct. 20-21, 2007 about low-cost missions to Near-Earth asteroids and comets (NEOs).

WHAT: Workshop on Low-Cost Missions to Explore Near Earth Objects. Near-Earth asteroids and comets come closer to Earth than any other celestial objects and are not only of scientific interest in their own right, but also can serve as stepping stones to Mars. This workshop will bring scientists and engineers together to explore and identify innovative, cost-effective strategies for future missions.

WHO: Scientists and engineers from NASA and other organizations in the science community. News media interested in attending will need to register on the workshop Web site. No recordings will be permitted during the meeting sessions, and any presentation material may not be reproduced without permission of the presenter. Interviews will be permitted outside the meeting room.

WHEN: 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. PDT Saturday, Oct. 20, 2007; and 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. PDT Sunday, Oct. 21, 2007.

WHERE: NASA Ames Conference Center, Bldg. 3, NASA Ames Research Center, Moffett Field, Calif. NASA Ames Research Center is located about 40 miles south of San Francisco on U.S. 101. Take the Moffett Field exit and drive east to the main gate. Continue on South Akron Road towards Hangar One to the conference center, located in NASA Research Park at the corner of South Akron Road and Severyns Avenue.

RETRACTION: NASA WORKSHOP NOT OPEN TO PUBLIC

MOFFETT FIELD, Calif. — A NASA media advisory 07-74AR, entitled “NASA to Host Workshop On Low-Cost Missions To Near Earth Objects” mistakenly indicated the event was open to the public and news media. However, this will not be a public event. NASA apologizes for the error.

The media advisory referred to a workshop scheduled at NASA Ames Research Center from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. PDT Saturday, Oct. 20, 2007 and from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. PDT Sunday, Oct. 21, 2007.
