NASA officials will update the media Thursday, June 30, after two days of meetings to determine the Space Shuttle Discovery’s readiness for launch. The news conference will immediately follow the Flight Readiness Review (FRR) meeting, a thorough assessment of preparations for the Return to Flight mission. The FRR is designed to produce a number of key decisions about Discovery’s mission, STS-114, including an official launch date.
The media event is expected to begin no earlier than 4 p.m. EDT, but the exact start time depends on the meeting’s conclusion. The news conference will air live on NASA Television and will be broadcast on the agency’s website. NASA will hold the news conference at the Kennedy Space Center (KSC), Fla. Only reporters at KSC will be able to ask questions.
NASA senior managers will convene at KSC for the FRR June 29-30. Briefing the media will be:
- William Readdy, associate administrator for Space Operations
- Bill Parsons, Space Shuttle program manager
- Mike Leinbach, NASA launch director
