CLEVELAND – NASA’s Glenn Research Center and Cleveland Clinic will host STEMsation, a symposium for teachers and students in grades 4-12, on Friday, May 18, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will be held on the Cleveland Clinic Administrative Campus, in Building 3, 3050 Science Park Drive, Beachwood, Ohio.

The schools participating in the symposium are: Mound Elementary School and Michael R. White Elementary School, East Technical High School, Magnificat High School and MC2 STEM High School.

STEMsation (formerly National Engineers Week and National Lab Day) was designed to inspire interest in science, technology, education and math, or STEM subjects, and encourage pursuit of technical careers. It is a partnership between Cleveland Clinic and NASA Glenn Research Center to inspire underrepresented school students through project-based learning.

“STEMsation is a celebration of completed engineering projects by middle and high school students,” said Greg “Box” Johnson, associate director of External Programs at the Glenn Research Center in Cleveland. “Students amaze us with presentations that in many ways mirror the work of our scientists and engineers. This symposium offers students practical experience giving presentations in a professional setting while providing a front-row seat to NASA’s careers, research and discoveries.”

These future leaders in STEM have completed research projects related to chemistry, weather, rocks, water, rocketry, sound and sustainability. Students will present their projects to a team of NASA researchers, Cleveland Clinic medical professionals, student peers and educators.

“Cleveland Clinic is committed to education and STEMsation will help us build a pipeline of talent in the region by getting children involved early with science and medicine,” said Scott Doak, senior director of Talent Acquisition for Cleveland Clinic.
