NASA is reopening media accreditation for the Shuttle Return to Flight mission (STS-114). The mission has a launch window from July 13 to July 30. U.S. and foreign national news media must apply for credentials by set deadlines.
For accreditation, media must work for legitimate, verifiable news-gathering organizations. Media may need to submit accreditation requests at multiple NASA facilities.
NASA’S KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, FLA. (KSC)
Journalists not already accredited for Shuttle launch and landing activities at KSC need to submit requests from May 30 to June 10 via: https://media.ksc.nasa.gov
Once accreditation is approved, media will receive confirmation via e-mail with details about covering the launch, mission and landing. Credentials will be honored during the STS-114 mission at KSC, Johnson Space Center (JSC), Houston, and Dryden Flight Research Center (DFRC), Calif.
NASA’S JOHNSON SPACE CENTER, HOUSTON (JSC)
Media can either present KSC STS-114 mission credentials or obtain JSC credentials by calling the center’s newsroom at: 281/483-5111. Media planning only to cover the mission from JSC, and not attend events at KSC, should apply only at JSC. The deadlines for submitting accreditation requests for credentials at JSC are:
– June 13: representatives of non-U.S. media, regardless of citizenship
– July 6: U.S. media who are U.S. citizens
Media covering the mission from JSC using KSC credentials must contact the newsroom by July 6 to arrange workspace, phone lines and other logistics. JSC is responsible for credentialing media in the event of a Shuttle landing at White Sands Space Harbor, N.M. If a landing is imminent at White Sands, credentials will be arranged.
NASA’S DRYDEN FLIGHT RESEARCH CENTER (DFRC), EDWARDS AFB, CALIF.
The Shuttle could land at DFRC/Edwards, and notice could be short. Media should consider accrediting Los Angeles-based personnel who could quickly travel to DFRC. Fax requests for accreditation on company letterhead to: 661/276-3566. Media representatives must submit requests for accreditation to the DFRC Public Affairs Office by:
– June 1: for foreign national journalists
– July 7: for U.S. journalists
E-mail requests to: Leslie.A.Williams@nasa.gov are acceptable for media who have been on DFRC within the past year. Requests must include a phone number and e-mail address for follow-up contact.
– Foreign nationals, including permanent resident aliens, must provide: full name, sex, date of birth, place of birth (city, state/province, country), media organization, title and position, citizenship, visa and passport number, country of issue and expiration date, alien registration number, if a resident alien, driver’s license number and state/province of issue, and the last six digits of their U.S. Social Security number, if any. No personnel substitutions are allowed. Requesters must submit full information for any potential alternates in the original request.
– U.S. citizens must furnish: full name, date of birth, place of birth, media organization, last six digits of Social Security number and driver’s license number, including the state of issue.
In the event of a landing at Dryden, limited facilities will be available only to accredited media. For more information, call the Dryden Public Affairs Office at: 661/276-3449.
