NASA Administrator Michael Griffin announced today that Brian Chase will serve as the agency’s new assistant administrator for Legislative Affairs.
Chase most recently was vice president of Washington Operations for the Space Foundation. The Foundation is the leading non-profit organization advancing the exploration, development and use of space for civil, commercial and national security endeavors. He represented the Foundation for space policy, educational programs, events, conferences, symposia and media activities.
Prior to joining the Space Foundation, Chase served as executive director of the National Space Society (NSS). He was responsible for all aspects of managing an international, 20,000-member grassroots organization. Prior to joining NSS, he served as deputy chief of staff, campaign manager, press secretary and senior legislative assistant, for U.S. Congressman Dave Weldon (R-FL).
Chase also worked as manager of State Relations and Strategic Communications for NASA contractor United Space Alliance in Houston. He began his career at NASA’s Johnson Space Center and the agency’s headquarters as a cooperative education student and later as a program analyst with the International Space Station Program Office.
Chase has been a radio and television commentator on numerous national and regional outlets, including the Fox News Channel, CNN, CNBC and C-SPAN. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Texas at Arlington.
Reporting to the office of Strategic Communications, the Office of Legislative Affairs devises and implements the legislative strategy to carry out NASA initiatives requiring congressional action and state and local government relations. The office also responds to requests and inquiries from congressional committees, individual members of Congress, and their staffs.
