Officials who oversaw the design, development and testing of the Orion spacecraft will visit NASA’s Langley Research Center in Hampton, Virginia, to celebrate Langley’s contributions to Orion’s successful December flight test. The event will be held at an all-hands meeting Thursday, March 19, from 1 to 2 p.m.

NASA Orion Deputy Program Manager Mark Kirasich and Lockheed Martin Orion Deputy Program Manager Larry Price will recognize Orion team members, discuss results from the flight test and share a progress update on the future mission of the spacecraft.

Media are invited to the all-hands and will have the opportunity to speak with Kirasich and Price from 2 to 2:30 p.m. Media should contact Sasha Congiu at 757-272-9859 or sasha.r.congiu@nasa.gov no later than 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 18.

On Dec. 5, 2014, Orion launched atop a Delta IV Heavy rocket from Cape Canaveral on Orion’s fight test, a two-orbit, 4.5-hour flight that tested many of the systems most critical to safety. Orion is part of NASA’s plan to develop new technologies and capabilities to send astronauts farther than ever, to an asteroid and on the journey to Mars.
