News media are invited to the ground-breaking for a new 40,000-square-foot computing facility being built at NASA Langley Research Center in Hampton, Virginia.
The May 22 event begins at 10 a.m. and will feature speakers from NASA Langley, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, which is overseeing the project, and Turner Construction Co., which is building the facility.
Media interested in attending the event should contact Michael Finneran at NASA Langley to arrange access to Langley. He can be reached at 757-864-6110 or at michael.p.finneran@nasa.gov.
The Computational Research Facility is the third building in NASA Langley’s 20-year Revitalization Plan. The 40,000-square-foot structure will provide a consolidated data center and high-density office space.
Turner Construction Co. is working through the Norfolk District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The Corps of Engineers awarded the New York City-based company a $23-million contract in October 2014.
Construction is scheduled to begin in late June 2015. The facility is scheduled for completion in September 2016.
