CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. – NASA and Florida Power & Light Company are inviting media to tour a newly commissioned one-megawatt solar power facility at Kennedy Space Center, Fla., on Thursday, Nov. 19, at 10 a.m. EST.
NASA, FPL, and SunPower Corporation managers will be available to discuss the solar power facility that is providing electricity directly to the space center and also announce plans to pursue a new research, development and demonstration project at Kennedy.
STS-129 mission badges will be honored. However, there is no new accreditation for this event.
Media need to be at Kennedy’s news center by 9 a.m. on Thursday for transportation to the solar power site.
FPL, Florida’s largest electric utility, is building a second solar photovoltaic power generation system at Kennedy. The second will be a 10 megawatt solar farm that will provide electricity to FPL customers.
