Media are invited to a photo opportunity as space shuttle Atlantis moves from its processing hangar, Orbiter Processing Facility 2 (OPF-2) to the Vehicle Assembly Building (VAB) for the final time on Oct. 17, at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Atlantis is scheduled to move at about 8:30 a.m. EDT. Media must arrive at Kennedy’s Press Site by 7:30 a.m. for transportation to the event. Journalists without NASA Kennedy accreditation need to apply for credentials by noon, Tuesday, Oct. 16. International media accreditation for this event is closed. Badges can be picked up at the Kennedy Space Center Badging Office on State Road 405. Media must apply for credentials online at: https://media.ksc.nasa.gov

Any updates on the move will be available at 321-867-2525. Atlantis has been undergoing preparations for public display as part of NASA’s Transition and Retirement processing of the shuttle fleet. The orbiter is targeted to move to the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex on Nov. 2. There, a grand opening is planned for Atlantis’ new home in July 2013.
