NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center Visitor Center in Greenbelt, Md., will host this month’s free Sunday Experiment on Feb. 17 from 1 to 3 p.m. EST. This month’s edition of Sunday Experiment will uncover the world of thermal coating and contamination engineering.

The Sunday Experiment is a free afternoon for children of all ages and their families to discover NASA Goddard’s exciting missions.

Several thermal coatings will be on display including a newly developed coating that will help keep lunar or Martian dust off the surface of sensitive hardware. Visitors will discover the importance of keeping satellites clean and the different methods engineers use to protect satellites from harmful contaminants before it is launched into space.

Children can engage in hands-on activities showcasing Goddard’s world-renowned science and engineering research and technological developments. Families will leave inspired by the activities, wowed by the scientists and engineers, and excited about Goddard’s revolutionary research and technology. The Visitor Center’s mesmerizing Science on a Sphere explores the cosmos and Goddard’s cutting edge science and research.

The Sunday Experiment held the third Sunday of each month, celebrates all things science, technology, engineering and mathematics, and spotlights major science missions managed by NASA Goddard and set to launch in the near future.
