Robert Mirelson has been selected as the new Chief of
News and Information at NASA Headquarters in Washington.
Mirelson succeeds Bob Jacobs, who was named Media Services
Director earlier this summer.

Before joining NASA, Mirelson was the Deputy Bureau Chief for
Consumer Affairs for the Federal Communications Commission
(FCC). While at the FCC, he helped develop and implement
national media and consumer information and education
programs and improved public Internet access to the
Commission.

Prior to his tenure at the FCC, he was the senior Booz Allen
& Hamilton Associate specializing in public affairs and media
relations supporting the National Imagery & Mapping Agency,
Department of Defense (DOD) and the Internal Revenue Service.

Mirelson entered the public affairs field during his 29-year
career in the U.S. Army. He served as a Pentagon spokesman,
commander of the American Forces radio & television network
in Korea, publisher of the European edition of the Stars &
Stripes newspaper and director of Corporate Communications
for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Washington.

Mirelson also served as the Public Affairs Officer for the
Military District of Washington, Fort McNair, as the public
affairs officer for the U.S. Army in Europe and as the U.S.
European Command public affairs officer. During his tenure,
he served as the on-scene DOD spokesman for numerous U.S.
contingency and humanitarian operations in Europe and Africa.

Mirelson has a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Florida
Southern College, Lakeland, and a master’s degree in mass
communications from the University of Florida, Gainesville.
