NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center Visitor Center in Greenbelt, Md. announced that it will be having free “Scout Days” in May and June, where girl scouts and boy scouts can learn about NASA science and technology.
NASA invites scout troop leaders to contact NASA to arrange participation at the events. Scouts will be able to meet and talk with NASA engineers about their work, participate in an engineering design challenge, and showcase their work to NASA staff and museum visitors.
Two dates have been established for the events:
Girl Scout Engineering Day: Saturday, May 12, 12 – 4 p.m. EDT
(Troop leader professional development session: Monday, April 23, 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. EDT)
Boy Scout Engineering Day: Saturday, June 23, 12 – 4 p.m. EDT
(Troop leader professional development session: Tuesday, May 22, 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. EDT)
These sessions have been established to help girl and boy scouts earn Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) related achievements. Troop leaders can bring their troops to NASA’s inaugural (and free) Scout Days at the NASA Goddard Visitor Center.
In order to participate in NASA Scout Days, troop leaders must attend a professional development session in order to prepare their scouts for the design challenge. Only scout leaders who have attended the appropriate professional development session will be eligible to participate in the Scout Day design challenge.
