CLEVELAND — NASA’s Glenn Research Center will share in the excitement of inspiring the next generation of scientists and engineers during the “Fathers Matter: A Night of Science and Fun for Dads and Kids” event.
The event, hosted by NASA’s Science, Engineering, Mathematics and Aerospace Academy, or SEMAA, Project at Cuyahoga Community College will be held at the Metro Campus on Thursday, Aug. 11 at 5:45 p.m. Registration begins at 5:15 p.m.
NASA SEMAA is a national, innovative project designed to increase participation and retention of historically underrepresented K-12 youth in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics, or STEM.
NASA Glenn biomedical engineer, Dr. Bilal Bomani, will deliver the keynote address.
Families attending the event will be able to participate in hands-on educational activities and demonstrations, and talk with Glenn employees about NASA’s missions and educational opportunities.
Demonstrations include learning how NASA simulates the environment of space with a vacuum chamber; exploring how rockets are launched; countdown to a rocket launch; and creating a comet inside a freezer bag.
Also available will be the popular “Picture Yourself in Space” photo booth, where children and adults receive a free souvenir photo taken as an astronaut and free NASA educational material.
The event is free and open to the public.
