Jr. headlines a group of four Glenn engineers who will be honored for their achievements in science, technology, engineering and math during the 22nd annual Black Engineer of the Year Awards Conference, Feb. 14-16 at the Baltimore Convention Center.

The awards recognize individuals for exceptional career gains in government and industry, in lifetime achievement and in other pioneering feats that encourage strategic alliances with corporate America and increase productivity from underrepresented groups.

The following Glenn employees will be honored for instilling in others the drive to succeed.

Dr. Woodrow Whitlow Jr., is recognized as “Most Important Black in Technology.”

Jo Ann Charleston, chief of the Educational Programs Office, is recognized as “K-12 Promotion of Education.”

Dr. Rickey Shyne, director of the Facilities and Test Directorate, is recognized for “Professional Achievement in Government.”

Dr. Yolanda Hicks, research engineer, is recognized for “Outstanding Technical Contribution in Government.”

Other NASA employees who will be recognized include Assistant Associate Administrator Christyl Johnson at NASA Headquarters as the “Most Important Black in Technology,” and La Vida Cooper and Muzar Jah at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center as “Modern Day Technology Leaders.”

The event is sponsored by the Council of Engineering Deans of the Historically Black Colleges and Universities, Lockheed Martin Corporation and Career Communications Group, Inc., publisher of US Black Engineer & Information Technology magazine.
