NASA astronaut and Iowa State University alumnus Clay Anderson will be inducted into the school’s Aerospace Engineering Hall of Distinguished Alumni at 4 p.m. CDT on Thursday, April 10, as part of the university’s annual celebration, VEISHEA.
Anderson will kick off the festivities during the opening ceremonies at 11:30 a.m. Friday, April 11, and then serve as the Grand Marshall of this year’s parade on Saturday, April 12, at the central campus.
Anderson received his master’s degree in aerospace engineering from Iowa State in 1983. That same year, he joined the Johnson Space Center in the Mission Planning and Analysis Division. He was selected as an astronaut in 1998. In 2007 Anderson spent a five-month tour of duty working aboard the International Space Station.
VEISHEA visitors can learn more about the school’s other connections with NASA at its booth from noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday in the College of Engineering tent at Marston Hall. Visitors also will get a preview of NASA’s next-generation spacecraft that will send humans to the moon and beyond. These missions mark the nation’s next steps in space exploration to increase our understanding of the world, which can lead to new ways of improving our lives here on Earth. Anderson will be available to sign autographs at the NASA booth from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.
