NASA announced today Stephen Jurczyk is the new Deputy Center Director for the agency’s Langley Research Center, Hampton, Va.
Jurczyk was Langley’s Director of the Research and Technology Directorate. He was responsible for the management and direction of research and technology endeavors in aerodynamics, aerothermodynamics, acoustics, structures, materials and airborne systems in support of NASA’s aeronautics, exploration systems, science and space operations.
He began his NASA career at Langley in 1988 as an electronics engineer in the Electronic Systems Branch. He developed advanced electronic systems for several atmospheric remote sensing instruments and space data systems. In 1993, he was detailed to NASA Headquarters, where he managed the Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission. From 1994 to 1997, he was the Instrument Systems Engineer and later the Spacecraft Systems Manager for the Landsat 7 Project at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center, Greenbelt, Md.
In 1997, he returned to Langley as Head of the Electronic Systems Branch in the Aerospace Electronics Systems Division. He led the design and development of advanced and experimental flight electronics technologies and systems, specializing in the application of microprocessor-based data acquisition and signal processing electronics for space flight instrumentation.
In 2002, he was selected as Deputy Director for Flight Systems in Langley’s Systems Engineering Competency, and in 2003, he was selected as the Director of the Systems Engineering Competency.
Jurczyk earned bachelor’s and master’s of science degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, Va.
