MOFFETT FIELD, Calif. — News media and the public are invited to attend a special pre-launch program in the Exploration Center at NASA Ames Research Center on Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2007, featuring an opportunity to observe the live televised broadcast of the launch of STS-118 space shuttle Endeavour and hear several speakers who will discuss the upcoming mission.
WHAT: An opportunity to watch the live televised broadcast of the launch of STS-118 space shuttle Endeavour. The launch is scheduled at 3:36 p.m. PDT from NASA Kennedy Space Center, Fla., and will be televised live on NASA TV. In addition to seeing the broadcast, attendees will hear remarks from Ames’ planetary scientist Chris McKay; researcher Cecilia Wigley, who will discuss one of the experiments aboard STS-118; Laura Shawnee of Ames’ Education Division, who will discuss the Educator Astronaut Program; and astronaut Janice Voss, who has flown in space five times and will provide pre-launch commentary.
WHEN: 2:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. PDT, Wednesday, Aug. 8.
WHERE: NASA Exploration Center, located at the main gate, NASA Ames Research Center, Moffett Field. To reach NASA Ames, take U.S. Highway 101 to the Moffett Field, NASA Parkway exit and drive east on Moffett Boulevard towards the main gate and bear right into the parking lot. The Exploration Center is located in the large white dome.
NASA TV is carried on the Web and on an MPEG-2 digital signal accessed via satellite AMC-6, at 72 degrees west longitude, transponder 17C, 4040 MHz, vertical polarization. It’s available in Alaska and Hawaii on AMC-7, at 137 degrees west longitude, transponder 18C, at 4060 MHz, horizontal polarization. A Digital Video Broadcast compliant Integrated Receiver Decoder is required for reception.
